With the month of July, we welcome the cultural, gastronomic, and artisanal richness of the second largest state of Mexico, Sonora! Join us this July 7 to 17 to learn more about this place famous for its beautiful desert and beach landscapes, the majestic peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range and for being home to eight different indigenous communities: Mayos, Yaquis, Pimas, Guarijíos, Seris, Pápagos, Cucapá and Kikapoo.

 

 

THURSDAY, JULY 7

 

10:00 AM | Opening of the Photography Exhibition “Sonora, a treasure to discover” + Pop-up Boutique. Both will remain open Monday through Saturday during the Institute's regular hours.

 

Free admission. Tickets are not required.

FRIDAY, JULY 8

 

6:30 PM | Sonora cooking class with Chef Marcelo Aguilar. Bacanora mixology and regional products tasting with Chef Manuel Salcido. Presentation of the series "Degustar Sonora".

6:30PM | Talk "The Missions of Father Kino" with René Rivera. Bacanora mixology and regional products tasting with Chef Manuel Salcido.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 13

 

 

6:30PM | Sonora Night. Come and discover Sonora in Washington, DC! Bacanora and regional products tasting from the state of Sonora. Short film presentation “Casino del Diablo” by producer from Sonora, Óliver Rendón.

 

Important: This day our institute will be closed to the public and will only be open for the Sonora Night scheduled at 6:30 PM for those who reserved their tickets in advance.

At its discretion, the MCI may take your temperature upon arrival, and/or ask for proof of vaccination and an accompanying valid photo ID.

 

 

 

Parking: Metered parking down 16th street but no parking available on-premises.

Closest Metro: Columbia Heights Metro Station is approximately 9 minutes from the Mexican Cultural Institute.
