Exhibits

The tradition of the rebozo in Tenancingo has surpassed borders while keeping its historical heritage and INTERWOVEN tells that story for all our guests to see. Hillary Steel, a weaver who followed this journey of art and customs, shares with us the intricate tale of the Jaspe rebozo, exhibiting her contemporary work alongside fine cotton jaspe rebozos woven on both the traditional backstrap loom and pedal looms.

A teacher, artist, and writer, Steel celebrates the essence of the resist-dyed and colored threads that bind together an important part of Mexican tradition by becoming a student herself.

For many years, she studied with the rebozo master Don Evaristo Borboa Casas who taught her about this complex process and secrets of the trade. We are proud to showcase her tribute to this piece of Mexican tradition.
