Join the Mexican Cultural Institute and DC Folklórico Dance Company for Dance Across Mexico, a 10-session workshop designed for beginners interested in discovering the rich diversity of traditional Mexican dance.

 

Over the course of 10 weekly sessions, participants will explore traditional dances from different regions of Mexico while learning about the movement, music, traditions, and cultural expressions behind each dance. The specific repertoire will be adjusted based on the group's progress.

 

Whether you are completely new to Mexican folk dance or simply looking for a fun way to learn more about Mexican culture, this workshop is a welcoming space to move, learn, and connect. 

 

No previous dance experience is required. Classes will be conducted in English. 

 


 

📅 DATES & TIME:

10 weekly sessions
Thursdays, 6:30 PM–8:30 PM
October 8 – December 10, 2026

 

A final presentation for participants will take place during the week of December 14. Details and date will be announced during the workshop.

 


 

📍 LOCATION:

Mexican Cultural Institute
2829 16th Street NW
Washington, DC 20009

 

Sessions will take place in Cinecito, the Institute's dedicated screening and performance space.

 


 

💃 INSTRUCTORS:

 

Yanet Juárez and Alfonso
DC Folklórico Dance Company

 

Yanet and Alfonso are the co-directors of DC Folklórico Dance Company, bringing their experience and passion for Mexican folk dance to this workshop.

 


 

🎟️ REGISTRATION:

 

$200 per participant. Your registration fee covers all 10 sessions of the workshop.

Capacity: 24 participants

Minimum age: 15 years old

 

Space is limited, advance registration is required.

 


 

👞 WHAT TO BRING / WHAT TO WEAR:

 

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement.

 

For footwear, folk dance shoes or shoes with a small heel are recommended and will provide the best experience for the workshop. If you do not have this type of footwear, you may wear the closest alternative you have.

 

Participants may also want to bring a long skirt for sessions where it is appropriate.
