TRADITIONAL DAY OF THE DEAD ALTAR
OCTOBER 29 TO NOVEMBER 20. Free admission. Tickets are not required
This year's piece finds its inspiration in the traditional Day of the Dead altars in Oaxaca. It is made up of several different levels, each carefully placed as ofrendas, or offerings to welcome back the souls of our loved ones who have passed away. Altars are often decorated, among other things, with cempasúchil (marigold) flowers, bread, seasonal fruit, mole dishes, mezcal, or any other kind of beverage our lost loved one used to enjoy in life. This work of art by Carlos Guzmán includes chocolate, mole, salt, slacked lime, flowers, mezcal, and pieces carefully crafted by Oaxacan hands in an attempt to show their work to the world with an avant-garde -yet timeless- altar rendering for the Day of the Dead.
Special event: #OpenHouse on Saturday, October 30 and Tuesday, November 2, from 10:00AM to 6:00PM. Free admission. Tickets are not required.
