2024 Mother Tongue Film Festival: Mamá/Mom by Xun Sero
The Mother Tongue Film Festival returns to the nation's capital from February 21-24 and we are beyond thrilled to be part of this year's line-up that will reflect on the theme “Finding Balance”.
Join us on Thursday, February 22, 7:00PM at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum for the screening of “Mother’s Tongue” (2022) and “Mamá/Mom” (2022). In this program titled Regeneration, youth confront generational trauma and seek to break through for a brighter future.
Following the screening, the audience is invited to stay for a Q&A with Maya-Tzotzil filmmaker Xun Sero, director of “Mamá/Mom”.
Mamá/Mom
(Dir. Xun Sero, 2022)
Interrogating the absence of a father in his life, Tzotzil director Xun Sero trains his camera on his warm yet fiercely driven mother Hilda, leading to a realization about the strength of her character born of the challenges and contradictions many women face.
