Dance: Mexicanidad – 100 Years Of El Jarabe Tapatío
Corazón Folklórico Dance Company, resident artists of the Mexican Cultural Institute, celebrate the historic 1919 performance of el jarabe tapatío, commonly known as “the Mexican hat dance,” which was debuted on the world stage by famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. This significant and widely-viewed performance solidified Anna Pavlova’s interpretation of el jarabe tapatío as the choreography of the song that is still performed today, 100 years later.
In its second annual showcase, Corazón Folklórico will feature dances and attire from the states of Baja California, Sinaloa, Jalisco, and Colima that represent various facets of Mexican identity while showcasing each region’s unique and culturally distinct style of dance.
Mexicanidad: 100 Years of El Jarabe Tapatío will be presented at the Gala Hispanic Theater on June 29 & 30 at 8pm. To order tickets by phone, please call (571) 732-1714.
