ABOUT MARA ODETTE
Mara Odette was born in Chiapas, grew up in Mexico City, and currently divides the year between Cuernavaca, Morelos and Bethesda, Maryland. She has exhibited her art in numerous cultural institutions, galleries, and museums, to include the Museo Jaime Sabines, Museo de Culturas Populares, and Museo Hermila Dominguez in Chiapas; and many more.
ABOUT ENRIQUE QUIROZ
Enrique was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. Son of diplomats, he has always been proud of his Mexican heritage, despite never having lived in the town where he was born. Due to his passion for the Day of the Dead tradition, he has become an altarista and is the founder of Catrinas Corazón.
This year’s special rendition of the Day of the Dead altar was prepared by Enrique Quiroz, Mexican artist based in Washington, D.C., and honors the victims of the El Paso shooting that happened August as well as a remembrance of prominent Mexican figures who passed away in 2019: artist Francisco Toledo, humanitarian Miguel León Portilla and singer José José.
$15 per person for the sugar skull workshop to cover costs.
