PERFORMANCE

Our institute is proud to collaborate with The Frontera Project as part of its 2022 Summer Block Party, which invites you to explore life on the border with an interactive, bilingual theatrical event that incorporates music and play to actively engage the audience in a comprehensive conversation about life on the Mexico - US border, beyond the political situation and the reality portrayed in the media.

Performances

The Frontera Project brings Mexican and American artists together in a unique, bi-lingual, interactive performance. Fusing theater, movement, music and play, this dynamic experience engages the audience in a compassionate, often joyous conversation about the Mexican / American border that lifts up human stories which are often lost. The Frontera Project, with its specific focus on Tijuana/San Diego, celebrates the richness, complexity, and humanity of Fronterizo life.

Explore the National Building Museum's major exhibition The Wall/El Muro: What is a Border Wall? beforehand. Examine the border wall from the perspective of architecture and design. The exhibition encourages visitors to be curious and engaged in an international conversation about the border.

FREE with National Building Museum admission. Registration is encouraged and includes a reminder email before the program.

NBM Late Night

On August 1, join us for a special presentation of The Frontera Project as part of NBM Late Nights.

These special evenings provide the opportunity to explore the National Building Museum's exhibitions and enjoy small bites, drinks, and entertainment like live music before a performance or lecture.

Visit the Museum after hours to explore exhibitions, including The Wall/El Muro: What is a Border Wall? before diving deep into life at the border with The Frontera Project.

Doors open at 6pm; performance begins at 8pm. This is a specially priced ticket requiring separate registration.

Workshops

The Frontera Project was created through a series of workshops which used the tools of theater to transform personal stories and experiences, as well as media narratives and cliches, into something lyrical, theatrical and new. This workshop gives people of all ages and backgrounds a chance to discover this process themselves. Through games, physical exercises and collaborative creation, participants explore and celebrate their own stories - in English or Spanish - and use their imaginations to shape those stories into art.

FREE with National Building Museum admission. Registration is encouraged and includes a reminder email before the program.
