Share a photograph of your dearly departed and make them part of our Ofrenda de Muertos 2026!

This year, the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C., commissioned Mexican visual artist Martirene Alcántara to create its 2026 Ofrenda de Muertos (Day of the Dead altar).

As part of this project, the artist wants to invite the community to participate by sharing a photograph of a deceased loved one to be included in the ofrenda.

-Printed photographs, 4" × 6" or a maximum of 5" × 7", may be delivered in person to the Mexican Cultural Institute located in 2829 16th Street NW. Washington, D.C. 20009.

-High-resolution digital photographs should be emailed to: ofrenda2026imc@gmail.com

Please include your name, the name of your deceased loved one, and their dates of birth and death.

Deadline (no pun intended): Monday, October 26, at 11:59 p.m. (Eeastern Time). Physical drop-off is only possible during the Institute’s opening hours.

Please note: Physical photographs cannot be returned. All images will be used exclusively for this ofrenda. Printed copies will be securely destroyed after the exhibition. 

Este año, el Instituto Cultural Mexicano en Washington, D.C. comisionó a la artista visual mexicana Martirene Alcántara la creación de su Ofrenda de Muertos 2026. Como parte de esta propuesta, la artista invita a la comunidad a participar compartiendo la fotografía de un ser querido fallecido para integrarla a la ofrenda.

-Las fotografías impresas, en tamaño 4" × 6" o máximo 5" × 7", podrán entregarse directamente en el Instituto Mexicano de Cultura ubicado en 2829 16th Street NW Washington, D.C. 20009.

-Las fotografías digitales deberán enviarse en alta resolución a: ofrenda2026imc@gmail.com

Por favor, incluya el nombre de la persona que envía la fotografía, el nombre de la persona fallecida y las fechas de nacimiento y fallecimiento.

Fecha límite para participar: Lunes 26 de octubre, a las 11:59 p.m. (hora de Washington, D.C.). Las fotos físicas se recibirán dentro de los horarios de apertura del Instituto.

Importante: Las fotografías físicas no podrán ser devueltas. Las imágenes serán utilizadas exclusivamente para esta ofrenda. Al concluir la exposición, las copias impresas serán destruidas de manera segura.
