Join us for a hands-on workshop where you will learn how to create and decorate your own Catrina crown, inspired by one of the most iconic symbols of Mexican Día de Muertos celebrations.

This workshop is part of the advance programming and preparation for the Catrinas Parade DC, an annual cultural celebration that brings the vibrant tradition of Catrinas to Washington, D.C this October 31st. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about this tradition, get creative, and prepare your own unique piece to wear and celebrate with.

The workshop will be led by Erika Romo and Josie Valdez, who will guide participants through the creative process, sharing ideas and techniques for designing and decorating a personalized Catrina crown.

🎨 What to Expect

During the workshop, participants will:

-Learn about the tradition and symbolism of Catrinas in Mexican culture and Día de Muertos.

-Create and decorate their own Catrina crown.

-Explore different ways to personalize their design with flowers, colors, ornaments, and other decorative elements.

-Get creative guidance from Erika Romo and Josie Valdez.

-Prepare a unique crown that can be worn as part of the Catrinas Parade DC and other Día de Muertos celebrations.

All essential workshop materials will be provided by the Mexican Cultural Institute.

We also encourage participants to bring any flowers, ornaments, ribbons, decorations, or other materials they may wish to incorporate into their crown. Bringing personal materials is completely optional, but it is a great way to make your creation even more unique!

Whether you are already familiar with Día de Muertos traditions or are discovering them for the first time, this workshop is an opportunity to learn, create, and celebrate Mexican culture through art.
