ABOUT THE TALK
“During the 19th century the world lived through an amazing frenzy for discovery and discoveries. New territories, both geographical and cultural, were sought out and explored. What is now called Mesoamerica drew a huge range of visitors with different interests and motivations: adventurers, photographers, artists and self-declared antiquarians and archaeologists. But, where were women when this was happening? I will tell you about some intriguing stories of women breaking rules, treading new ground and bequeathing us visual and written accounts of their finds.”
